Notes: Yes, I know, another butterfly. This time a Small Tortoiseshell we found in the little village of Swaffham Prior as we stopped to look at a windmill.

Title: Percy The Peacock
Location: Hylands Park, Chelmsford

Notes: With an early start today, I did another photowalk with the Chelmsford Flickr Photowalk group, covering 6 miles in all. We are continuing the Centenary Circle route and this time it was the 5 miles from Galleywood to Writtle, which took us for a long walk through Hylands Park. There were hundreds of butterflies to be seen, and we all did our best to capture them with our cameras. This butterfly is a lovely Peacock, and just sat still for two quick shots for me. The other one wasn’t properly in focus as the extension tubes meant limited Depth of Field. So, catch them while you can!

Title: Time For A Drink
Location: Queens Park, Billericay
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I enjoyed a lovely 2-mile walk in the park and nature reserve this morning. I saw loads of butterflies, most of whom were more interesting in chasing each other than sitting still and posing for me. I was just about to give up hope of getting a decent shot of any lepidoptera when this Small White caught my eye, having a drink of nectar from a thistle flower. I crept up on it and was really pleased to be able to get such a good closeup.

Title: Burt The Butterfly
Location: All Saints Churchyard, East Horndon
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I spent an enoyable few hours walking and geocaching around Herongate and Thorndon Park South today. In all, I covered 7.3 miles. This lovely butterfly was one of the few that was willing to sit still for me whilst I took it’s picture. Alistair decided he should be called Burt, don’t ask me why!
