Day #680

Day #680 Title: Late Bloomer
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: Another dull grey day. Didn’t feel like straying far from home for any pictures (I was busy doing boring jobs like filing) but I found the Fatsia japonica was in bloom out in the garden. Nice little flower, isn’t it?

Day #645 Title: Soft Green
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: Another damp and miserable day. On my way back from a meeting, I happened to spot the same patch of Oxalis which I had taken on Day #577. So I gave it a similar Orton treatment, but it’s still quite a contrast from the previous shot.

Day #634 Title: Sunflower Kitchen
Location: Calne, Wiltshire
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Today I went to stay with friends David & Rachel who used to live close by but moved to Wiltshire about 10 years ago. We have kept in touch since, but I haven’t been to see them for ages. So as I was on the way to Somerset for the weekend, I arranged to stop by and catch up with them and their two kiddies as another 40@40 event. This lovely sunflower was one which they grew in their garden, and was in a very simple vase on their kitchen table.

Day #588 Title: Imperfection
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: We are often fond of striving for perfection. This flower, although a little past its best, still has a beauty worth noticing, even though it is not a pristine specimen.

Day #587 Title: Meadow Impression
Location: Great Notley Country Park
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I spent the afternoon wandering around the country park at Great Notley, whilst on the hunt for geocaches and butterflies. One part has an area set aside for meadow flowers, and getting down low, I caught this Six Spot Burnet moth feeding on a flower. I took some which were much more sharp and well defined, but I liked this soft shot the best – it is straight out of the camera – no cropping, levels or fancy filters. Who needs Photoshop when you have an f/2.8 aperture? ;-)

Day #581 Title: Feeling Blue
Location: Wivenhoe
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I’ve had a bad day! My work laptop decided to die on me this morning, and no matter what I did, I could not coax it back into life. Eventually, I admitted defeat and took it along to a local guy who fixes them – no fix, no fee! Then I headed off to visit my parents as planned. We had a wander around Dedham during the afternoon – usually a good place for images – but the weather was about as glum as my mood. Of course, once we got home, out came the sun. So I found this little hoverfly floating about on one of Mum’s Agapanthus on the patio. A little bit later, PC Man rang to say he had managed to get the laptop going, so I shall pick it up tomorrow when I get home from my visit. Hopefully, things are looking up.
