Day #1089

Day #1089Title: Bauble Reflections
Location: Elham, Kent
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I was the first to arrive at my friend Julian’s for our Christmas weekend, having managed to get to his picturesque Kent village without too much trouble on the roads. We enjoyed a cuppa and a chat in the conservatory whilst waiting for the other arrivals. I looked up from my seat and saw this.

Day #1042Title: Holbeck Urban Village
Location: Leeds
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: After Leeds Hack had finished, we headed back to our friend’s place to stay for the evening. The quickest way is to walk along the tow path of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. A little way along, you get this view back towards Holbeck Urban Village (one of the generous sponsors of Leedshack, as it happens). They run a scheme to regenerate the area of the city south of the canal. I love the reflection in the water.

Day #984 Title: Tràigh Siar, Bhatarsaigh
Location: Vatersay
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: After leaving my little cottage on North Uist, I headed south for the ferry from Eriskay to the island of Barra. It promised to be a beautiful sunset once I arrived, and having consulted the map, I headed for West Beach on Vatersay (joined to Barra by a causeway). I wasn’t disappointed – the clouds parted and the Atlantic rolled in along with a sea mist, giving my a great atmospheric shot.

Day #977 Title: Fàilte gu Port Rìgh
Location: Portree, Isle of Skye
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Dear Mum, I made it safely to Skye. The drive from Carlisle was through some spectacular scenery; it was a shame I wasn’t able to stop very much to take pictures. Having arrived in Portree, I had a great evening catching up with Chris and Laura who used to work with me at the BBC, but left to move here for a quieter life. They are both really well and the lifestyle is suiting them. After some dinner, I went for a walk around the town and found this view from Staffin Road overlooking the harbour. A great find for Treasure Hunt Theme #64 – A Postcard Home To Mum.

Day #960 Title: Western Skies
Location: Writtle
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: It was a pretty miserable day for most of the time, but by about 7pm the sun came out. Not being one to waste the opportunity of decent light, I hot-footed it to Writtle for a geocaching walk. This was the scene looking west towards the sunset.

Day #958 Title: Dusk Path
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: After driving home from Leeds this afternoon, I was able to do some unpacking from my trip way. Then I noticed the light was getting a bit interesting, so hopped into the car and went to Galleywood Common to take a few shots of the clouds.

Day #952 Title: Patchwork Quilt
Location: Newcastle Quayside
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: The early part of the afternoon wasn’t great for weather, but Alistair & I still enjoyed a 4-mile walk to the north of the city. Then we went home and thought that was it for the day, but it perked up around 8pm and we rushed out again with cameras in hand to take a few pictures across the old docks to the East and then along the Quayside. I loved the way the orange clouds were reflected in the Shiny Slug. Yes, I know it’s been done before, and the internet doesn’t really need another picture of The Sage, Gateshead… but I couldn’t help it!
