Title: Attention To Detail
Location: Crossness Pumping Station, Belvedere, Kent
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: The Chelmsford Photowalk Flickr group spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Crossness Pumping Station open day today. It is a fine example of high Victorian engineering, which had fallen into disrepair for 50 years but is slowly being brought back to life. The building houses four of the largest beam engines in the world. One has been restored to fully working order, whilst the other three are in the process of being renovated by dedicated volunteers. There were loads of photo opportunities, despite there being quite a few visitors there for the last open day of 2011. This shot shows the meticulously restored iron railings around the central octagon. An obliging shaft of sunlight made the details really stand out.

Title: Flakey Red K6
Location: Little Waltham, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Whilst wandering about taking some photos today, I came across this tired old K6 phonebox. It set me thinking how communications have changed so much during my lifetime – only a couple of decades ago, these were all over the place and were your only reliable means of calling whilst away from home. If you broke down, you had to walk to the nearest one to ask for help. With today’s prevalence of mobiles, I wonder just how long examples of this venerable old British icon will remain on our streets? I thought it made a good catch for Treasure Hunt Theme #74 – Communication.

Title: 126 MPH
Location: National Railway Museum, York
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I visited the National Railway Museum in York with Alistair – we spent a happy afternoon geeking out over steam trains. I found photography difficult in the museum as there was an awful lot of contrasty light about – but this image sums up the place – the commemorative plaque from the side of Mallard, the fastest steam engine on the planet. I thought this would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #30 – Pride.

Title: Do Not Be On Fire
Location: BarCamp Nottingham
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Ever since he accidentally caused a power cut with a borrowed soldering iron at Open Hack London in 2009, poor Alistair has been getting stick whenever he goes anywhere near one. We had a great time at BarCamp Nottingham this weekend, and I wondered if this notice was put up especially for him? At least he saw the funny side, happily posing for this picture. He was even allowed to do some soldering later, as long as he was in disguise!
