Day #1765 Title: Amanita Muscaria
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: This afternoon I went to Galleywood Common on the hunt for some fungi to photograph with my new 100mm macro lens. I have to say, it’s a cracker, I’m very pleased with the results. And I was glad to find a reasonable specimen of Fly Agaric looking for all the world like the classic cartoon toadstool.

Day #1764 Title: Cheers!
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Strobist: 2 x YN560 from behind shooting through milky perspex @ 1/64; 1 x YN560 from right side through DIY softbox @ 1/64
Notes: After work I had the chance to play a bit more with my Splash Art kit. I was having trouble timing the flash going off, still much to learn. This is not the shot I originally wanted, but I ran out of time as the clock bonged midnight and I had to be content with what I’d got.

Day #1763 Title: After Autumn Rain
Location: Mark’s Hall, Coggeshall
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: Despite the potential for rain, we decided to head out to Mark’s Hall for the October Chelmsford Photowalk. We didn’t get wet (it rained while we were driving there) but the light was mainly grey and flat. The sun came out for about 20 minutes at one point, during which we ran round finding as many things to photograph as possible. These amazing pinky red leaves glistening with raindrops caught my eye.

Day #1762 Title: Gold & Blue Crown
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Strobist: 2 x YN560 from behind through yellow and blue gels @ 1/32, shooting through milky perspex; 1 x YN560 from right side through Opteka gridded snoot @ 1/64
Notes: Today I finally got some time to play with my new Splash Art II Kit which I collected from Joe Dyer at High Speed Photography on Thursday. It’s a great kit which means I can start making pictures really quickly, rather than an awful lot of setup which is required with my Arduino kit. I’ll still use that from time to time, but I’m looking forward to experimenting with this new equipment. I also re-organised my studio to give me a dry zone for making toy pictures and other macro shots, while keeping the splash kit set up in the wet zone. This was a simple crown made with water and a few drops of rinse aid in the splash zone to give longer tendrils. Read my full review of the Splash Art Kit.
