Day #1799

Day #1799 Title: Pink Milkshake
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 from above each side, through pink and blue gels @ 1/64
Notes: I was giving a talk and demo this evening on my liquid splash photography with the Splash Art Kit. I always like to give it a go before packing it up to take on the road, just to make sure it all works. I tried using milk for my tests today, with mixed success. This is the 1% fat variety, which worked reasonably well. Later on I tried full fat, which wasn’t half as good as I’d expected – far too blobby and the collisions just weren’t happening as much. More experimentation needed, perhaps.

Day #1738 Title: Tasty Fish Platter
Location: The Lion, Boreham
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes: Another day, another tasty pub lunch. This time Alistair and I dined at The Lion in Boreham – which is far more swanky inside than it looks. The food was excellent too, if a little pricey. And of course we managed to find a few more geocaches nearby afterwards.

Day #1711 Title: Iwatakan Feast
Location: Takayama, Japan
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: This morning we were able to indulge in a lie in. After our 5am alarm call yesterday, it was most welcome! Our mode of transport for today was a bus through the mountains to Takayama. It rained heavily along the way, but turned hot and sticky once we arrived at our destination – another traditional style Ryoken lodging. Having settled in, we had a wander into the town, sampled some excellent local sake, then I looked around the old administration building Takayama Jinya which has survived hundreds of years. This evening we enjoyed the magnificent feast above, cooked in our lodgings. There were so many tasty things on each tray, it was hard to know where to begin! We ended the evening in a relaxed fashion, listening to our guide’s tales from when he cycled the length of Japan. Read more about my stay.

Day #1664 Title: Market Stall Produce
Location: High Street, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Saw these attractive peppers on a market stall in town as I was roaming about this afternoon. Thought they would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #23 – Fruit And Veg.

Day #1614 Title: A Very British Tradition
Location: Bletchley Park
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: Another weekend at Over The Air at Bletchley Park, at least I was able to attend today. We were given Tiffin in these lovely Union Jack cups and saucers, along with Jam tarts and other treats. A great start to the Queen’s Diamond Jubliee weekend celebrations. I thought this would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #13 – A Famous Anniversary.
