Day #1803 Title: The Bright Lights Of London Town
Location: Oxford Street, London
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: I went to London this evening to meet friends for our Christmas dinner get together. I deliberately travelled up early so I could potter along Oxford Street and make some pictures of the Christmas lights before our rendez-vous. The lilac glow of Selfridges’ was very attractive, along with their amazing window displays. But it did remind me why I rarely set foot on Oxford Street if I can help it – let alone on a Friday evening, a fortnight before Christmas! It was heaving…

Day #1767 Title: Conjoined
Location: Ingatestone Station
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: I made this image this morning in the station car park, and when I processed it this evening, I was struck by the echos of yesterday’s shot. A few hours and several feet between them, but my mind was clearly still on the same wavelength! How odd.

Day #1745 Title: Light Fantastic
Location: Maldon
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mmEF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I spent a very enjoyable afternoon in Maldon in the company of photographic friend Ken "touchingthelight" Scott who is in Essex for a short lecture tour. We met up for a late lunch in the pub and lots of photographic chat before taking a wander around the Hythe. The light was kind to us, as it can be in the late afternoon during the Autumn. I’ve photographed this spot many times before but it seemed to zing with a light fantastic this afternoon – it must be Ken’s influence!

Day #1739 Title: A Blowy Day At The Seaside
Location: Southend
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes: We fancied a trip to the seaside today, so headed to Southend. It was quite sunny but also very windy, and at one point we had to take refuge in a seafront café for tea, toasted teacakes, and ear-thawing. We chickened out of walking the full length of the pier (1.25 miles each way) and instead opted for the rickety train ride instead. Here you can see a train just departing the seashore station on its trundle towards the pier head.

Day #1731 Title: Fuji-san Beckons
Location: In the air above Japan
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: The long trek home started with a 5:45am alarm this morning, but it all went smoothly and I was able to get the train to the airport and onto the plane without any hassles. Throughout my trip, whenever possible, I’ve been trying to catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji (or Fuji-san as she is known in Japan). Until now, she’s always been elusive, hiding behind the clouds without a hope of seeing anything. So imagine my surprise when there she was, head poking up above the fluffy white, visible over the wing a few minutes after takeoff. She seems to be beckoning me to return one day and see her up close. I will! I will! Read more about my stay.

Day #1707 Title: Ikebukuro Bicycle Boy
Location: Ikebukuro, Tokyo
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Having landed safely at Narita airport this morning and taken the train into central Tokyo by lunchtime, I arrived at my hotel with a few hours to spare before I could check in to my room. So I left my cases with reception and went for an explore in the local neighbourhood of Ikebukuro. It’s a vibrant corner of Toyko with plenty of unfamiliar sights and sounds to take in. I liked this boy quietly reading his mobile phone standing in front of the colourful advertising banners. Read more about my day.
