Day #1499 Title: Face Down February (Florida Pool Edition)
Location: Haines City, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: After last month’s wintry Face Down Tuesday, I thought I would have to get February’s on our last morning in Florida. What a contrast! Treasure Hunt Theme #02 – Once A Month – February.

Day #1498 Title: Sci-Fi Diner
Location: Disney Hollywood Studios
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: The last full day of our trip, we decided to pay a quick visit to some of the parks and do one or two things which we had missed previously. This included lunch in the 1950′s themed Sci-Fi Diner at Disney Hollywood Studios, where the tables are modelled to be cars parked at a drive-in movie. It was great fun!

Day #1496 Title: Chilling In The Pool
Location: Haines City, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: I really needed a “down day” today, so decided to stay at the house doing not a lot while the others went out to a water park. After lazing on the patio and pottering on the internet, I enjoyed a long splash about in the pool.

Day #1495 Title: Indy’s Narrow Escape
Location: Disney Hollywood Studios, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: Another day at a Disney park today, this time Hollywood Studios. As well as several great rides, we also enjoyed the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular stage show. I remembered this a little from my last visit in 1993, so was well prepared for the big flashes and bangs at the end! I thought this would make a great shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #55 – Dance/On The Stage (albeit a very large stage!). See more images from Disney Hollywood Studios.

Day #1494 Title: Longboat Key
Location: Sarasota, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: While the others went to a water park, I drove Heather out to Sarasota for a relaxing seafood lunch and afternoon by the sea. This was a view through the grasses on the dunes at Longboat Key, as the sun was beginning to set in the west. I hadn’t explored this bit of Longboat Key on my last visit in 1993, so this is a good image for Treasure Hunt Theme #16 - Somewhere New To You. See more images from Sarasota & the Keys.

Day #1492 Title: Portrait Of A Giraffe
Location: Disney Animal Kingdom, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: We had another fun day out today, this time at Disney Animal Kingdom. The first thing we headed for was the Afrian Safari where we were lucky enough to see leopards, elephants, hippos, white rhino and giraffes. This one posed rather well for me. As well as seeing the animals, there were also several excellent roller coasters to try out. See more images from Disney Animal Kingdom.

Day #1491 Title: Space Shuttle Atlantis
Location: Kennedy Space Center, Florida
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: Well, where do I start? We had a brilliant day at Kennedy Space Center today. It’s been 19 years since my last visit, and wanting to return was my main reason for coming to Florida again this year. We were just so lucky with our timing – since Atlantis landed for the very last time last year, tour buses have been stopping and letting visitors go inside the massive Vehicle Assembly Building to see the shuttle. But for around 10 days only, the VAB housed two shuttles – Atlantis AND Endeavour, before Endeavour gets shipped off to Washington for display. So we were able to have our pictures taken with both! And we met an astronaut who told us all about his 4 missions on board. The VAB may well be closed to visitors again for another 30 years very soon, when Atlantis gets put in its new museum at KSC which they have just started building, and they begin to prepare for NASA’s next space vehicle Orion. There was also the enormous Saturn V rocket display from the Apollo missions. All in all, a day to remember. I spent most of it with Neil Armstrong’s famous words ringing in my ears: “It’s one small step for man, one giant leap for Mankind”. What a picture to add to my collection for the Treasure Hunt theme #57 – An Inspiring Quotation. See more images from KSC.
