Day #1731

Day #1731 Title: Fuji-san Beckons
Location: In the air above Japan
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: The long trek home started with a 5:45am alarm this morning, but it all went smoothly and I was able to get the train to the airport and onto the plane without any hassles. Throughout my trip, whenever possible, I’ve been trying to catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji (or Fuji-san as she is known in Japan). Until now, she’s always been elusive, hiding behind the clouds without a hope of seeing anything. So imagine my surprise when there she was, head poking up above the fluffy white, visible over the wing a few minutes after takeoff. She seems to be beckoning me to return one day and see her up close. I will! I will! Read more about my stay.

Day #1716 Title: Kurashiki Canal Cruising
Location: Kurashiki, Japan
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: After the hustle and bustle of Hiroshima, today we moved on to the peaceful little town of Kurashiki, further east along Honshu’s southern coastline. The old heart of the town is centred around the canals and restored merchants’ warehouses which line their banks. I loved the traditional Japanese hats worn by this crew of one of the punts. We had a guided tour of the town this morning and some free time to explore this afternoon. The evening was spent in the group’s company at a local restaurant specialising in pork cutlets. All rather tasty, washed down with some sake! Read more about my day.

Day #1573 Title: Mind The Gap – Revisited
Location: Near Highwood
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: When I was driving past a few days ago, I noticed my favourite line of trees now had an attractive field of oilseed rape in front of it. But then, the weather was dull and boring. Today, after the showers had passed, the sun came out and I made a quick trip to take a few shots. Here it is as seen previously on Day #197 and Day #676. I thought it would make a good image for Treasure Hunt Theme #19 – My Favourite…

Day #1563 Title: Breaking Through
Location: Ingatestone
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: As I got off the train this evening, it became evident that I had just missed a huge storm, and the sunset was breaking through the heavy cloud bank. I knew a suitable vantage point, and grabbed a quick shot before hurrying off to my club committee meeting.

Day #1528 Title: Light After The Storm
Location: Tolleshunt Major
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: It started off as a filthy miserable day, raining incessantly until well past lunchtime. Eventually, the sun broke through the dark cloud bank and there was a rather pleasant sunset.

Day #1510 Title: Storm Front
Location: Crondon
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: I enjoyed a 6-mile walk this morning before the rain started in earnest. It wasn’t without its looming clouds, however. The storm front can clearly be seen above the trees in this atmospheric landscape.

Day #1480 Title: Westward Cloudscape
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: More rain this morning. By the time I had to pop out to do some shopping this afternoon, it had cleared up a bit, so I went back to Galleywood Common for a few minutes to watch the clouds. It’s pretty much the same location as Day #1466 but a slightly different viewpoint and treatment – and of course, the clouds are never the same twice!
