Day #3356Title: Bark Beetle Galleries
Location: High Roding, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Alistair and I had a great walk around the footpaths of High Roding today, looking for a few caches. One was the wrong side of a ditch filled with water, so we had to make an impromptu bridge from a sturdy branch which we found nearby. It had these enigmatic patterns in the bark – which I have since learned are called galleries and made by Bark Beetles. To my eye, they look like weird alien art!

Day #3340Title: Non-Slip
Location: Stebbing, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix G II ASPH
Notes: I was out with friends walking a circuit around the village of Stebbing today. We found this little bridge with curious non-slip stripes across the planks – not an arrangement I’ve seen before!

Day #3330Title: Electric Pom-Pom
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 45mm f2.8 Leica DG Macro-Elmarit ASPH
Notes: I had another play with the LED lights this evening, this time they were static and I moved the camera about. I liked the effect with this one, which I thought looked like an electric pom-pom waving about.

Day #3329Title: Atomic
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 Lumix G Vario
Notes: It’s ages since I made any physiograms, so I thought it was about time I had another go today, especially as the weather was awful and I didn’t fancy venturing out earlier in the day. This was a 256 second exposure, covering the lens and changing the gels on the torch to give four different colours. It’s straight out of camera. The GX8 takes a while to do its noise-reduction processing after you have made a very long exposure, but it’s worth the wait – can’t see any noise in the blacks at all! It’s interesting to see where the orbits take a little wobble and get knocked out of true – I think there was a slight snag on the dangly fixing, but I quite like the effect anyway. I thought it would make a great shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #65 – Swing.

Day #3314Title: Dusk In Dystopia
Location: Barbican, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix G II ASPH
Notes: Several members of my Daily 365 group of Flickr have recently posted some rather effective landscape images with a touch of Intentional Camera Movement. I’ve not seen many landscape opportunities for my own pictures which would suit ICM, but today I was inspired to have a go at some shots in an urban environment. I was in London for an evening meeting and around dusk, when the lights are all coming on, is a great time to wave the camera around. This image was one of many taken from the Lakeside Terrace at the Barbican, looking across the water towards the little church of St. Giles, Cripplegate, dwarfed and surrounded by modernist high rise buildings on three sides. I thought the final picture looked rather like the fictional dystopian Gotham City, which seems to be coming alive before our eyes, across a rather bigger pond.

Day #3306Title: Ice Is Nice
Location: Galleywood Common, Chelmsford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: This morning was another cold and frosty start. I took a walk to Galleywood Common to see what I could see. I found these fantastic shards of ice in a frozen puddle.
