Day #3307

Day #3307Title: Mindless Tedium
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix G II ASPH
Notes: I’ve had the most boring day – sorting, filing and shredding. It’s one of the reasons I hate January, which is always a time for mopping up last year’s admin. Trouble is, I only did the bare minimum this time last year, so there’s more than usual to make up for. Argh! I know there’s several more days ahead which will be just as tedious, so expect more grumps!

Day #3306Title: Ice Is Nice
Location: Galleywood Common, Chelmsford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: This morning was another cold and frosty start. I took a walk to Galleywood Common to see what I could see. I found these fantastic shards of ice in a frozen puddle.

Day #3305Title: Shadow Play – January
Location: Hylands Park, Chelmsford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: I’ve been sorting out some books to get rid of and needed to drop them off at the second hand bookshop in Hylands House this afternoon. After a nice slice of cake and a cup of tea in the café there, I took a wander around the park as the sun was shining. I had almost finished and was on the way home when I spotted these fantastic shadows on a wall by the main gate. I’ve been wondering what to do for my Monthly Project this year – and have come up with the idea of Shadow Play. They will probably all be in mono, and maybe all square – I will see how the subjects develop over the year. So here we kick off Treasure Hunt Theme #1 – January Monthly Project.

Day #3304Title: The Last Man On The Moon
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM / Yongnuo YN-14EX Macro Ring Flash
Notes: I had been wondering what to photograph for today’s shot as I’d been busy most of the day with jobs at home. Late on, I heard the news that Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, died today. So I dug out my stamp collection (I especially liked Space and aviation themed stamps while I was growing up). I have photographed an example of this one before, on a First Day Cover from 1969 on the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing (it was my Day #567). But after a little tweaking in Photoshop, I thought this version better represented Gene’s achievement. Of the 12 men who have walked on the Moon, only six are now left.

Day #3303Title: Tulip Trio
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM / Yongnuo YN-14EX Macro Ring Flash
Notes: It’s been far too long since I last used my Microfleur flower press. I bought a bunch of tulips last Monday and have been thinking for a couple of days that I should get around to pressing some before they completely fall apart. Two minutes zapping in the microwave later, I had three blooms arranged nicely on the linen they were pressed between – the blobs in the background are remnants from previous flowers, which gives it all a rather lovely watercolour effect. Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #67 – Tulips.

Day #3302Title: Natural Cryogenics
Location: Panfield, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Trio 28mm f/3.5 (Sweet/Velvet/Twist)
Notes: It was a sunny but cold day today. I decided to head to Panfield for a long geocaching walk. I was glad of my thermals and many layers! There was still a bit of snow lingering here and there, and plenty of puddles in the shade which were still frozen. I liked this little leaf entombed in a sea of icy bubbles.

Day #3301Title: The Red Door At No. 4
Location: Witham, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: I had a couple of errands to run in Witham today. The snow had started to melt, despite another covering this morning, so the roads were very slushy. By the time I had finished my chores and continued my little walk, the sun had come out. Now I’m always a sucker for a red door, and this one just screamed to be photographed. The rather majestic lion knocker stared at me impassively as I sized him up. A perfect find for Treasure Hunt Theme #30 – Fill The Frame With Red. (I tried cropping off the door frame on the left but it just looked rather odd and cramped, so the frame remains mostly red.)
