Day #3391Title: Iron-Clad Tree
Location: Noak Hill, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: This curious iron-clad tree was one I spotted during a little bike ride to find some geocaches today. I’m not sure if the metalwork was supposed to keep the tree together, it looked rather odd but has clearly been like that for many years.

Day #3390Title: Dash Cam
Location: Around Elstree, Hertfordshire
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I was on a late shift today, moving the equipment we need for the Local Elections from our technical stores in Elstree to Millbank in central London. This involved four of us loading up a transit van and dragging it into town, then unloading again. There were multiple delays, including traffic chaos caused by a big fire at Staples Corner – not on our direct route, but the knock-ons of everyone else being diverted put us at least an hour behind schedule. This is my view from the front passenger seat of the van as we were finally on our way. We finished at Millbank at just after 10pm and another delay on the trains meant I didn’t get home until just before midnight. All very tedious!

Day #3389Title: Dare To Be Different
Location: Hazeleigh, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I was exploring a different part of the disused South Woodham Ferrers to Maldon railway line this afternoon, around Hazeleigh. I liked this avenue of trees, but liked the fact that one of them was wonky even better!

Day #3388Title: Rust & Ruin
Location: Chiswell Green, Hertfordsire
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I finished work quite early today so was able to go for a walk around the village of Chiswell Green to mop up some geocaches which I either hadn’t looked for, or had had a go but failed last time. This was a rusty abstract I found near the second box I went in search of.

Day #3387Title: Down By The Jetty
Location: Wivenhoe, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: It’s Dad’s birthday so I went over to visit my parents in Wivenhoe today. We had a nice lunch and plenty of the usual family chit chat. On my way home, I stopped off at the Quay for a quick walk to find some pictures. The tide was out but I found this rather forlorn looking kayak moored on the end of a pontoon overlooking the jetty, beached on the mud. The low sun brought out the best in the scene.

Day #3386Title: It’s Good To Have Goals
Location: At home
Camera: Apple iPhone 5s / Rear Lens, 29mm f/2.2 equivalent
Notes: Today I was very busy writing the logs for my French and Belgian geocaching adventure. I had had a tiring trip, so sitting on the sofa all day with my feet up seemed like a very good idea. I didn’t got out, and I was very absorbed with my task. The next day, I had a horrible sinking feeling that I had forgotten to take a photo for today! I was gutted. But then, in a moment of straw-clutching, I looked at my phone and realised that I had taken this image of some of my unactivated geocoins on the right day. Relief has never been so palpable! I will activate them when I reach 8000 finds (currently on 7261), have set 100 hides (currently at 72), or cached in Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic and Austria, respectively. It’s good to have goals. And it saved my Photo A Day bacon! Phew.

Day #3385Title: Géocaching Sans Frontières
Location: Adinkerke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Continuing my little geocaching trip abroad, today I drove to Belgium to find some new caches and have a ride on my fold up bike. There was a great series of 45 caches which straddled the Franco-Belgian border in a big circuit on back roads and cycle paths. It took me a little over 3 hours to complete. The weather was fantastic. Here’s my bike propped up in Belgium, while I’m standing in France (just). The convenience of open borders is something we are going to miss terribly when we’re out of Europe. For the moment, I’m making the most of it.
