Day #3296Title: Morbid Fascination
Location: Stock, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: I had some errands to run in Billericay this afternoon, when the sun was out. Unfortunately, by the time I had finished, it had disappeared again. But I stopped off at Stock Church on the way home to see if I could find any pictures. I admit I’m a bit weird and enjoy wandering around graveyards looking for unusual headstones. I spotted this one, which I thought was rather morbid! Classic Victorian Gothic, perhaps… But it makes a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #73 – Wings.

Day #3295Title: Bug-Eyed Design
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / Lensbaby Scout / 50 mm f/2 Double Glass Optic / x0.6 Wide Angle Converter / x4 Close Up Filter
Notes: I’ve been meaning to tidy my photographic studio (aka the box room) for ages. I finally made the time today, and now have a clear workspace again. I thought I would show you one of my lovely old vintage film cameras – it’s a Univex Mercury II (CX) Half-Frame 35mm rangefinder. The Lensbaby wide angle converter and close up filter gave it a bit of a bug-eyed appearance, but to be honest, the design is pretty eye-popping anyway! Although I completed my Retro 365 project in 2015, I never got around to scanning and uploading the final couple of months. And I hardly picked up a film camera in 2016, to my shame. Both things I hope to rectify this year –  a resolution of sorts. Anyway, that’s a shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #20 – Camera in the bag.

Day #3294Title: The Lego Church
Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix G II ASPH
Notes: I had a meeting at BBC Elstree today, and arrived to find the sun shining and blue sky all around. I pass this church, (St. Theresa of the Child Jesus RC) on the way from the car park to the main site, and have noticed it on other visits but never stopped to take a picture. Its distinctive, boxy architecture, with those high pitched rooves, reminds me of the Lego constructions I built as a child. Anyway, it was good job I got a picture this morning, since by the time I finished this afternoon it was dark and raining.

Day #3293Title: Cherry Blossom Flare
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / Lensbaby Scout / Fisheye Optic 12mm f/4
Notes: I snagged a bargain on eBay the other day – a Lensbaby Scout to fit my EOS 5DMkIII and 12mm Fisheye Optic, for about a fifth of the cost to buy new. It arrived in the post today, so I had a bit of fun playing with my pink LED tree. While Canon’s 8-15mm Fisheye strives to minimize internal flare, the Lensbaby optic goes all out to embrace it. Of course, you get a different sort of picture, but that’s the point. Some examples from 2013, 2014 and 2015 show you what great results I got. I loved the Canon lens to bits, but couldn’t justify keeping it for the amount of time I used it. However, this Lensbaby optic can be used on my 5D for almost-circular fisheye results, akin to the Canon at 8mm (you could fake it easily enough with a black mask). But when used on my Panasonic Micro 4/3rds bodies (the GH3 and GX7) with my Composer Pro, it will produce results much like the full frame fisheye effect of the Canon at 15mm. A double win, for just over fifty quid! And since you can’t get much more distorted than a fisheye lens, it makes a perfect shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #26 – Distorted.

Day #3292Title: Miniature Hypsography
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: I turned this wooden candlestick when I was at school. I last photographed it way back on Day #423, and later with Gerald on Day #1068, but thought it would be worth revisiting today for Treasure Hunt Theme #74 – Wooden. I also learned a fancy new word in the process – hypsography.

Day #3291Title: Life In A Puddle
Location: Great Baddow, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: Alistair and I took a walk around Great Baddow this afternoon, looking for a few geocaches. I spotted these drowning leaves in a puddle and thought it would be a good way to kick off my treasure hunting this year, for Treasure Hunt Theme #53 – Puddles.

Day #3290Title: Twists & Curls
Location: Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Sweet 35mm f/2.5
Notes: It was a beautifully sunny day, so Alistair and I decided to go to Burnham-on-Crouch for a wander. This bench was on a jetty along the prom. I had fun messing about with the Composer Pro and Sweet 35 – a lens I bought in April last year, but I’m ashamed to say I haven’t used it since Day #3027.
