Day #3407Title: Entente Cordiale
Location: Folkestone, Kent
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I had a completely mad day running around Kent with my geocaching friend Ian, finding lots of caches and attending the Kent Mega 2017 near Paddock Wood. For reasons I won’t bore you with, we ended up in Folkestone in the evening for another meetup, this time with a group of French geocachers. They were a friendly bunch and we enjoyed a chat and exchanged caching stories before going our separate ways.

Day #3400Title: Beach Hut Surprise!
Location: Brightlingsea, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I had an enjoyable day helping some geocaching friends clean up some rubbish in Brightlingsea before having a great walk nearby. I spotted this surprised-looking beach hut during my wanderings.

Day #3392Title: Holy Trinity Bengeo
Location: Bengeo, Hertfordshire
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I had fun today geocaching with mad friend Ian. We went to Hertfordshire and then Buckinghamshire to collect some caches we had both wanted to visit. On the way we passed this lovely old church in Bengeo, where there was a film pot lurking – one of over 10,000 “Church Micro” geocaches alive in the world.

Day #3389Title: Dare To Be Different
Location: Hazeleigh, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I was exploring a different part of the disused South Woodham Ferrers to Maldon railway line this afternoon, around Hazeleigh. I liked this avenue of trees, but liked the fact that one of them was wonky even better!

Day #3386Title: It’s Good To Have Goals
Location: At home
Camera: Apple iPhone 5s / Rear Lens, 29mm f/2.2 equivalent
Notes: Today I was very busy writing the logs for my French and Belgian geocaching adventure. I had had a tiring trip, so sitting on the sofa all day with my feet up seemed like a very good idea. I didn’t got out, and I was very absorbed with my task. The next day, I had a horrible sinking feeling that I had forgotten to take a photo for today! I was gutted. But then, in a moment of straw-clutching, I looked at my phone and realised that I had taken this image of some of my unactivated geocoins on the right day. Relief has never been so palpable! I will activate them when I reach 8000 finds (currently on 7261), have set 100 hides (currently at 72), or cached in Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic and Austria, respectively. It’s good to have goals. And it saved my Photo A Day bacon! Phew.

Day #3385Title: Géocaching Sans Frontières
Location: Adinkerke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Continuing my little geocaching trip abroad, today I drove to Belgium to find some new caches and have a ride on my fold up bike. There was a great series of 45 caches which straddled the Franco-Belgian border in a big circuit on back roads and cycle paths. It took me a little over 3 hours to complete. The weather was fantastic. Here’s my bike propped up in Belgium, while I’m standing in France (just). The convenience of open borders is something we are going to miss terribly when we’re out of Europe. For the moment, I’m making the most of it.

Day #3384Title: La Maison De Dieu!
Location: Audinghen, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: On Tuesday, the day after my new passport arrived, I made a snap decision to have a little trip to France and Belgium to do some geocaching, as I’d never visited either country since starting to look for tupperware. So I booked a very last minute trip and found myself on the Le Shuttle today, finally making it onto French soil around tea time (there were a few things I needed to do before leaving home, and then there was a tedious hour and a half delay in the crossing). I headed along the French coast towards Cap Gris Nez and found myself at this remarkable little church, Eglise Saint Pierre d’Audinghen. It was rebuilt in 1960 after being destroyed by allied bombing during World War II. The first striking thing is its huge concrete open bell tower in the shape of a lyre – which is what initially made me stop to take a look around. The porch is illuminated by this wonderful stained glass verse from Matthew VII. The sun was catching the letters at just the right angle to throw some fantastic coloured shadows on the paving. There was even a cache by the gate! Perfect. I knew it had to be picture of the day.
