Location: At home

Day #3347Title: Lichen Archipelago
Location: Little Baddow, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 45mm f2.8 Leica DG Macro-Elmarit ASPH
Notes: This morning promised to be sunnier than the afternoon, so I headed out for a quick walk around the footpaths near Sandford Mill Lock to find a geocache. It was at a metal bridge over the Canal, which is wonderfully crusty – lots of peeling paint layers and plenty of lichen and rust. I homed in on a small area to get the best textures.

Day #3333Title: Who Stole My Heart?
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2 / +4 Close Up Lens / Creative Bokeh Kit
Notes: I’ve spent another arduous day tidying again. This time it was the photographic studio (aka box room). It was in a terrible mess, but now it’s pristine again! So to celebrate I made a couple of Valentine’s Day themed images, this one and American Minion Beauty for my Toybox weekly project. Rather pleased with how they both came out. Now all I have to do is keep the studio tidy so it’s easy to make more pictures in future.

Day #3329Title: Atomic
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 Lumix G Vario
Notes: It’s ages since I made any physiograms, so I thought it was about time I had another go today, especially as the weather was awful and I didn’t fancy venturing out earlier in the day. This was a 256 second exposure, covering the lens and changing the gels on the torch to give four different colours. It’s straight out of camera. The GX8 takes a while to do its noise-reduction processing after you have made a very long exposure, but it’s worth the wait – can’t see any noise in the blacks at all! It’s interesting to see where the orbits take a little wobble and get knocked out of true – I think there was a slight snag on the dangly fixing, but I quite like the effect anyway. I thought it would make a great shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #65 – Swing.

Day #3313Title: Routemaster Reflections
Location: Wivenhoe Park, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Sweet 35mm f/2.5
Notes: I was in Colchester again today to give a couple of training sessions for clients this afternoon and evening. But I had a bit of time this morning for a very cold and foggy walk around Wivenhoe Park, the campus for the University of Essex. Dad worked there for many years before he retired, and I used to know it well, but I haven’t visited and had a good walk around for at least 10 years. It has changed quite a lot since then, with new buildings springing up all over the place. This is a reflection of the new Students’ Centre in one of the big lakes. I liked the way it was cantilevered to apparently float above the water. I was also very surprised to see the old Routemaster bus in the distance – it was a long way from home! But “home” is now apparently here as a static snack bar selling bacon butties to passing students. It provided a welcome splash of colour in an otherwise fairly limited palette.

Day #3301Title: The Red Door At No. 4
Location: Witham, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Lensbaby Composer Pro / Double Glass Optic 50 mm f/2
Notes: I had a couple of errands to run in Witham today. The snow had started to melt, despite another covering this morning, so the roads were very slushy. By the time I had finished my chores and continued my little walk, the sun had come out. Now I’m always a sucker for a red door, and this one just screamed to be photographed. The rather majestic lion knocker stared at me impassively as I sized him up. A perfect find for Treasure Hunt Theme #30 – Fill The Frame With Red. (I tried cropping off the door frame on the left but it just looked rather odd and cramped, so the frame remains mostly red.)
