Beach Stroller

Taken by Caz on Monday, 24th November 2003

Beach Stroller Title: Beach Stroller
Location: Bournemouth
Camera: Canon EOS 50E
Film: Kodak Gold 200
Notes: This was an opportunistic shot as the afternoon drew to a close on a crisp November day in 2003. I was in Bournemouth for the evening and took a walk along to Prom to see what I could see. This lady pushing her baby in a buggy along the wet sand was my reward.

High Altitude

Taken by Caz on Thursday, 17th April 2003

High Altitude Title: High Altitude
Location: Arctic Circle, Caihnavarri, Norway
Camera: Praktica MTL5B / Auto Rosley 38-95mm f/3.5
Film: Kodak Gold 200
Notes: This image evokes wonderful memories of a fantastic holiday I had in Arctic Sweden and Norway in April 2003 – mushing a team of dogs with a sledge. There were six of us on the tour in total, and we each had our own team of dogs to look after to pull our equipment. We made it all the way to the high hills on the Swedish/Norwegian border. Having camped overnight at the mountain hut at Caihnavaggehytta, we set off for a quick tour around Caihnavarri before heading back down the valley and into Sweden. The scenery was fabulous and the experience was unforgettable.

Duo From La Villette

Taken by Caz on Thursday, 22nd April 1999

Into The Géode Title: Into The Géode
Location: Parc de la Villette, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Canon 28-105mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: This is part of the Musée des Sciences et de l’Industrie complex in La Parc de la Vilette, north east Paris. This looks rather sinister and Orwellian, as if the humans are about to enter some great munching machine. The building was built to be an abbatoir before being turned into the museum. This was one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Cité de la Musique Title: Cité de la Musique
Location: Parc de la Villette, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: This is part of the Cité de la Musique complex in La Parc de la Vilette, north east Paris. The architecture is varied and contemporary. I though this bit looked like a spacecraft had just landed. Another one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Deux At La Défense

Taken by Caz on Wednesday, 21st April 1999

Japan Bridge Title: Japan Bridge
Location: La Défense, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: The symmetry of the bridge and its position spanning between two huge office blocks was what attracted my attention. This was one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Sihouettes On The Steps Title: Sihouettes On The Steps
Location: La Défense, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: I was looking at the composition of the steps when the two figures came into view at the top. I waited until they were on the brink of stepping onto the flight before taking the shot. Another one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Under The Pyramide

Taken by Caz on Monday, 19th April 1999

Under The Pyramide Title: Under The Pyramide
Location: Louvre, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: The main entrance to the Louvre is now under this huge glass pyramid which sits right in the middle of the main courtyard. When the sun comes out, the atrium beneath is criss-crossed with the shadows made by the diamond panes of glass. This was one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Louvre Geometry

Title: Louvre Geometry
Location: Louvre, Paris
Camera: Canon EOS 600 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Agfa CTX 200
Notes: Another shot of the Louvre, this time showing the triangular fountains in the courtyard.

Two From Toronto

Taken by Caz on Sunday, 2nd August 1998

Reaching Skyward Title: Reaching Skyward
Location: St Lawrence Market, Toronto
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: This is part of the structure which illuminates the uderground PATH system beneath Toronto’s business district. The canopies allow light to flood the subterranian corridors and provide ornament above ground. This was one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Glass Arrow Title: Glass Arrow
Location: Commerce Court, Toronto
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: This glass canopy over a revolving doorway of Commerce Court attracted my attention. I liked the way the different patterns and shapes interacted, while still preserving the overall dynamic shape. Another one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

Outfrastructure

Taken by Caz on Saturday, 14th March 1998

Outfrastructure Title: Outfrastructure
Location: Lloyd’s Of London, City
Camera: Canon EOS 600 / Canon 28-105mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: The Lloyd’s building is built in a very peculiar manner – the Sir Richard Rogers’ design called for the infrastructure to be built outside, hence the name…. This was one of the 15 images I used to gain my ARPS distinction in 1999.

The Time Tunnel

Taken by Caz on Saturday, 10th January 1998

The Time Tunnel Title: The Time Tunnel
Location: Poplar Station, Docklands
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: Another trip to London’s Docklands, this time to Poplar at the beginning of 1998. This is the bridge across the A13 at Poplar DLR. I composed the shot and then waited patiently until a suitable figure walked into view at the end of the tunnel. This is one of my favourite shots from my 1999 ARPS panel.

A Trio From Docklands

Taken by Caz on Sunday, 26th October 1997

South Quay Footbridge Title: South Quay Footbridge
Location: South Quay, Docklands
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Canon 75-300mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: There used to be this wonderful footbridge at South Quay in Docklands. It had a marvellous S-curve as it snaked its way across the water to the other side. The people add an extra dimension to the picture, they are placed in a dominant position on the bridge and lead the eye into the frame. This view was taken from the stairs leading up to South Quay DLR station – which has now been boxed in. It doesn’t matter though, because when the Jubliee Line extension via Docklands was built, they filled in half of this quay and chopped the bridge up. So, another image which cannot be repeated now. I’m glad I saw it in its heyday in 1997. It helped me gain my ARPS in 1999, so I definitely have fond memories of it.

Vaulted Roof Title: Vaulted Roof
Location: Canary Wharf DLR Station, Docklands
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: The roof structure at Canary Wharf station on the DLR has often fascinated me. I wanted to show the patterns in the canopy and lighting in an abstract manner. The low viewpoint and wide angle lens have helped to exaggerate the perspective of the curves. Another which helped me gain my ARPS in 1999, so I definitely have fond memories of it.

Vent Tops Title: Vent Tops
Location: Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, Docklands
Camera: Canon EOS 100 / Vivitar 19-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: The tops of these vents made a striking subject for a picture, with the background pair echoing the larger foreground example. The diagonal formed by the escalator leads the eye in towards the main subject. Yet another which helped me gain my ARPS in 1999, so I definitely have fond memories of it.
