Piers By County
Hastings is in East Sussex, and it’s pier has had a very chequered history. It was originally designed by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1872, at 910ft. It has suffered several mis-haps over the years but the latest and sorriest event in its life was in October 2010 when it suffered a huge fire under suspicious circumstances. There were many wrangles over ownership, but finally it is now being repaired to its former glory, and is due to reopen in Summer 2015. Read more on the history of Hastings Pier on the NPS website.
