Day #1272

Day #1272 Title: Encapsulated
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 Speedlite, camera left with stofen diffuser @ 1/8; 1 x YN560 Speedlite, behind shooting through opaque plastic and a blue filter @ 1/32
Notes: I was experimenting with some bubble macro shots today. I know a good Merlot shouldn’t really have bubbles,  but it looked so pretty with them blown at the rim of the glass. It was also rather nice to drink after I’d finished playing with it! More on the setup here.

Day #1259

Day #1259 Title: Smoke Signals
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 Speedlite on camera right through DIY snoot @ 1/8, bounced off white cardboard at camera left. Read more info on the setup.
Notes: I had great fun photographing tendrils of smoke from a joss stick this afternoon. Now my house smells! I’ve done some post production here to make the blacks really dark, and upped the contrast a bit. Compared to my first attempt back in 2008 on Day #230, I would say I’m very pleased with this one, my flash has worked extremely well and makes all the difference for clarity. I loved watching the patterns – you never know what you’re going to get from one shot to the next – it was quite relaxing in some ways. Certainly the finished image is a great one for Treasure Hunt Theme #34 – Zen.

Day #1252 Title: Splashdown
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Strobist: 2 x YN560 Speedlites with diffuser; 1 cam left @ 1/64 on background, 1 cam right @ 1/64 on subject
Notes: It was a bit of a miserable day today, so I thought I would try out some high speed shots. I’ve been meaning to have a go ever since I bought my new flashes a few weeks ago. It’s quite tricky to get the timing right – I was dropping the grape from a height of about 18″ for the best splash. I was quite pleased with how this one turned out.
