Day #1745 Title: Light Fantastic
Location: Maldon
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mmEF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I spent a very enjoyable afternoon in Maldon in the company of photographic friend Ken "touchingthelight" Scott who is in Essex for a short lecture tour. We met up for a late lunch in the pub and lots of photographic chat before taking a wander around the Hythe. The light was kind to us, as it can be in the late afternoon during the Autumn. I’ve photographed this spot many times before but it seemed to zing with a light fantastic this afternoon – it must be Ken’s influence!

Day #1719 Title: High Rise Night Life
Location: Yokohama, Japan
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: We had our last ride on the Shinkansen this morning, travelling from Kyoto to Yokohama, Japan’s second largest city. It’s almost a suburb of Tokyo, being a few miles down the coast. It’s also the first city where Westerners were allowed to settle 150 years ago, and has a very cosmopolitan feel. After a trip up the Landmark Tower to look out over the metropolis, I went with friends Chris and Vicky on Cosmo Clock 21 (a huge ferris wheel)  in the harbour amusement park. This was the view just as the sun was setting and the twinkly lights were coming on, dominated by Landmark Tower dwarfing fairground beneath. Then we headed to Chinatown for our last group meal together, a very sociable way to end our tour. Read more about my stay.

Day #1716 Title: Kurashiki Canal Cruising
Location: Kurashiki, Japan
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: After the hustle and bustle of Hiroshima, today we moved on to the peaceful little town of Kurashiki, further east along Honshu’s southern coastline. The old heart of the town is centred around the canals and restored merchants’ warehouses which line their banks. I loved the traditional Japanese hats worn by this crew of one of the punts. We had a guided tour of the town this morning and some free time to explore this afternoon. The evening was spent in the group’s company at a local restaurant specialising in pork cutlets. All rather tasty, washed down with some sake! Read more about my day.

Day #1601 Title: Beached In The Mud
Location: Goldhanger
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: The tide was out as I started on a 9.5 mile geocaching walk as part of an event near Goldhanger. A very tiring day but good fun.

Day #1547 Title: On The Jetty
Location: Brightlingsea
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: I took Mum to Brightlingsea for a walkabout this afternoon. Wall to wall blue sky meant there were photo opportunities everywhere. This is a view from one of the floating jetties by The Hard. I thought it would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #62 – Vanishing Point.

Day #1545 Title: Messing About On The River
Location: Little Baddow
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I took a walk along the canal late this afternoon. The light was very gentle and as I was lining up a shot of the reeds along the opposite bank, this motor launch came into view.
