Day #1809 Title: Piccadilly Pavements
Location: Piccadilly Circus, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes: This evening I went to London to a lovely surprise birthday party, for a good friend of the family, at the Athenaeum Club in Piccadilly. I was too busy enjoying the do to take many pictures inside! But on the way home, I stopped near Piccadilly Circus to make a few pictures of the bright lights and wet streets.

Day #1778 Title: Bright Idea
Location: Galleywood
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes:  Enthused from my lightpainting session last week, today I went on the hunt for some battery operated LED fairy lights – the Christmas displays are all up at the local garden centre now. Despite needing them for nocturnal outings, the guy at the shop could only offer me solar-powered lights. I politely declined! But at least I got a shot of these pretty mains powered strings as a consolation prize.

Day #1726 Title: Good Weather For Shopping
Location: Nakano Broadway, Tokyo, Japan
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: The blisters on my feet were getting the better of me today, plus the weather dawned overcast and promised to stay that way all day, so I decided to hop on a local train and head to Nakano Broadway to visit some of the toy shops there. Boy, do the Japanese know how to do toy shops! And it’s not just for kids – you are just as likely to see a be-suited Japanese businessman scouring the shelves for his latest manga-fuelled addiction as you are school kids. I managed to find a few goodies without spending the earth, so was very pleased with my haul. Read more about my stay.

Day #1719 Title: High Rise Night Life
Location: Yokohama, Japan
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: We had our last ride on the Shinkansen this morning, travelling from Kyoto to Yokohama, Japan’s second largest city. It’s almost a suburb of Tokyo, being a few miles down the coast. It’s also the first city where Westerners were allowed to settle 150 years ago, and has a very cosmopolitan feel. After a trip up the Landmark Tower to look out over the metropolis, I went with friends Chris and Vicky on Cosmo Clock 21 (a huge ferris wheel)  in the harbour amusement park. This was the view just as the sun was setting and the twinkly lights were coming on, dominated by Landmark Tower dwarfing fairground beneath. Then we headed to Chinatown for our last group meal together, a very sociable way to end our tour. Read more about my stay.
