Day #1809 Title: Piccadilly Pavements
Location: Piccadilly Circus, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes: This evening I went to London to a lovely surprise birthday party, for a good friend of the family, at the Athenaeum Club in Piccadilly. I was too busy enjoying the do to take many pictures inside! But on the way home, I stopped near Piccadilly Circus to make a few pictures of the bright lights and wet streets.

Day #1784 Title: Chalk & Flint
Location: Broadstairs, Kent
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mmEF f/4 L IS USM
Notes:  Julian & I made the most of the beautiful sunny weather today by taking a long stroll on the beach at Broadstairs, followed by ice cream and lunch in Ramsgate. Along the way we found a large rockfall from the cliff, where the rough round chalk nestled at the cliff foot with pieces of smooth, knobbly flint. It really showed how the different properties of the rocks behaved in the face of constant attrition from the sea. I thought this made a great find for Treasure Hunt Theme #31 – Rocks & Stones.

Day #1782 Title: Sunset Splash
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Stroblist: 2 x YN560′s through coloured gels @ 1/64, both shooting through milky perspex from the rear; 1 x YN560 from RHS @ 1/64 through Opteka gridded snoot
Notes:  This evening I gave my High Speed Flash & Water Splash talk and demo at Ingatestone CC. So this afternoon I had a quick session in the studio to check all the gear was working before packing it up and setting off for the club. Now I’ve managed to get a big enough drop tank, I can capture some great reflections of the splashes in the water. I liked the colour combination for this one. Read my full review of the Splash Art Kit.

Day #1740 Title: Green Tranquility
Location: Wickham Bishops
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm f/1.7
Notes: Today was a little more overcast, but we managed to avoid any rain during our geocaching walk. This is the lovely little wooden viaduct across the River Blackwater just south of Witham, which used to support the Witham to Maldon branch line before Dr Beeching’s axe fell. I love the peacefulness of this location – which we last visited (again on a geocaching mission) on Day #564.

Day #1734 Title: Brighton Sunny Morning
Location: Brighton Pavilion
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: We arrived in Brighton in plenty of time for the BarCamp this morning. And as it was gloriously sunny, Alistair and I decided to run a geocaching session as one of the first on the board. Any excuse to chase tupperware! We took a group of about 10 BarCampers around the local streets to find 3 caches, one of which was very close to this viewpoint of the marvellously mad Pavilion, one of my favourite architectural subjects in Brighton. It’s years since I got a reflection shot as good as this though (last time was on film!). See more pictures from the weekend.

Day #1708 Title: Rikugi-en Serenity
Location: Waka Poetry Garden, Rikugi-en, Tokyo
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 70-300mm EF f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM
Notes: Today was the first real day of our tour. Our guide Tom took us to the beautiful Waka Poetry Garden in Rikugi-en as the first stop on a busy day of sightseeing. The tranquility and pristine neatness of the garden was lovely. Here you can see one of the classic views in the garden – Japanese snow lantern, rocks, manicured bushes and of course the all-important reflection in water. We also visited Sensō-ji Temple, Ginza (the Knightsbridge of Tokyo) and Shinjuku today – all in all, a hectic start to our trip but very enjoyable. I thought this would  make a great shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #50 – Serenity. Read more about my day.
