Day #2168

Day #2168Title: Owl Butterfly Feeding
Location: Tropical Wings, South Woodham Ferrers
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: Checking down the list of Treasure Hunt Themes the other day, I realised I still hadn’t yet taken anything for #48 – The Insect World. I knew I wasn’t going to fulfill it easily with wild insect subjects at this time of year, so I took a little trip to Tropical Wings this afternoon and spent a very sticky, humid hour in their Butterfly House, chasing specimens. There were several different species flitting about between the plants. This obliging Owl Butterfly sat very still for me, while sucking the juices from fermenting fruit which had been put out for them to feed on.

Day #2163Title: You’ve Got The Eye
Location: Fitzrovia, London
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 40mm EF f/2.8 STM
Notes: I had an interesting encounter this evening. I was walking from Clerkenwell to Fitzrovia to meet friends for dinner, making a few pictures along the way. Close by the British Museum, I was lining up an image of railings as a man walked by. He suddenly stopped, looked at the railings and said “What do you see? I walk by here every day but don’t see anything interesting”. I showed him the image on the back of the camera, and he remarked:

“Yes, you’ve got the eye” as he walked away, a smile on his face…

Day #2124Title: Golden Rivulets
Location: Great Notley
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: After a lack-lustre photo walk in Great Notley Country Park this afternoon, I thought I would have to choose one of the images I made then as picture of the day, but the thought wasn’t filling me with much enthusiasm. This evening, after my photo club meeting, I noticed the moisture patterns on the roof of my car, lit by the nearby street lights. Much better.

Day #2006Title: Chive Details
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: I seem to be going through a purple patch at the moment. These tenacious chives are doing well in my garden, despite my utter neglect of them. The taste great and look pretty too!

Day #1984Title: Lifecycle
Location: Colne Engaine, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: I spent a few hours walking and photographing around the village of Colne Engaine today, firstly solo and then with the GNPC folks who arrived for our evening outing. I found some curious antlers but chose this pretty flower for best pic today. I’ve no idea what they are, but their many shades of purple attracted me immediately.
