Location: At home

Day #2509Title: Art Abstract
Location: South Hill Park, Bracknell
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-135mm EF-S f3.5-5.6 IS STM
Notes: I met up with fellow serial 365 friends this afternoon for chat and a lecture in Bracknell. We convened in the café at South Hill Park to begin with, where there was an exhibition of ethnic African art all around the walls. This was part of the backing mount boards which adorned every surface. The real exhibits were quite accomplished, but I thought this might make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #58 – My 5 Year Old Could Have Done That!

Day #2492Title: Seaside Panes
Location: Worthing, West Sussex
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: A lovely sunny day meant I was able to visit four piers for my Piers of the Realm project today. This little panel of artworks is on the windbreak on Worthing Pier. I loved the juxtaposition of each picture, along with being able to see right through some panes to the view beyond. A headless passer-by walked into the middle frame just in time! The screen is a bit of a visual obstacle, so a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #69 – Obstacles.

Day #2481Title: Blood Swept Lands
Location: The Tower Of London
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: After another meeting in London today, I decided to go to the Tower of London to see the poppy installation, Blood Swept Lands And Seas Of Red, which is growing in the moat. As it turned out, I just missed HM The Queen’s visit by a few minutes! (I had no idea she was going on the same day as me). Oh well. the poppies looked magnificent enough. I chose this detail from the huge swathe in the western side of the moat as today’s image.

Day #2215Title: Catch The Pearl
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: Last Tuesday, I attended the first of four weekly workshops at GNPC to develop the Creative & Artistic Photographer. We are starting out by studying some art history and historical photographers. Each of us was given a different artist and photographer to go away an do a little bit of research on for our homework. Mine was a contemporary artist I have admired for many years, Roger Dean, who is best known for his album cover artwork for bands such as Yes and Asia throughout the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. My favourite work of his is from Asia‘s eponymous 1982 album, featuring a dragon rearing up out of the waves to catch a pearl. For my 21st birthday, my Mum commissioned one of her friends to make a full size 3D embroidery version of the cover which has hung on my wall ever since. Seeing as I was writing up my homework today, I thought this would make an appropriate image for the day. To be honest, I’m a little surprised it’s taken me 2215 days to get around to taking its picture!
