Day #2532Title: Still At Springfield Lock
Location: Springfield Lock, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: The first of the twelve locks along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin is at Springfield. It’s the last one I’ve photographed for my monthly location shots, looking still and quiet in the late afternoon sunshine. I wonder what it would have looked like in its heyday – way before these modern flats were built alongside. Treasure Hunt Theme #12 – Once A Month – December.

Day #2516Title: Sunny At Stonham’s
Location: Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I made use of a brief patch of sunshine today to visit Stonham’s Lock – the penultimate lock I needed to visit for my monthly project this year. Great for Treasure Hunt Theme #11 – Once A Month – November.

Day #2465Title: The Cuton Lock Pillbox
Location: Cuton Lock, Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was sunny today, so we headed to the canal at Cuton Lock so I could make my monthly shot of the navigation’s twelve locks. Cuton is notable for its bonus WWII Pillbox on the eastern bank. Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #09 – Once A Month – September.

Day #2426Title: Storm Approaching Beeleigh
Location: Beeleigh Lock, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: Time for my monthly visit to the canal, this time to Beeleigh Lock. It was dark and foreboding as a storm approached, so I thought the mono treatment added to the menace of the weather.

Day #2399Title: Kayak Turn At Paper Mill Lock
Location: Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I took a quick trip to Paper Mill Lock this afternoon for my monthly shot along the Chelmer & Blackwater canal. I’ve visited this location many times before but this is the first time I’ve seen a kayak in the water. A great shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #07 – Once A Month – July.

Day #2330Title: Hoe Mill Lock Moorings
Location: Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I liked the addition of frothy summer plants growing on the towpath for this months’ visit to one of the locks along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation. Hoe Mill Lock is number nine along the route from Springfield to Heybridge Basin, located close to the pretty little village of Ulting. Treasure Hunt Theme #5 – Once A Month, May.

Day #2256Title: Thy Lock Runneth Over
Location: Rickets Lock, Langford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was another beautiful Spring morning, so I went for a walk along part of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation which I haven’t previously explored – the area around Rickets Lock between Ulting and Beeleigh. I was surprised just how flooded the lock gates are, even though we’ve not had any really heavy rain for quite a while now – I’ve never seen it pouring over the downstream walls as well as the lock gates themselves. It makes a perfect shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #3 – Once A Month – March (my series this year is based around each of the locks on the C&BN).
