Day #2423Title: Furrowed Path
Location: Newney Green, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Notes: Out for a geocaching walk today, this path across the field was perfect for the Treasure Hunt Theme #70 – A Country Path Or Track.

Day #2413Title: Levington Creek
Location: Levington, Suffolk
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 70-200mm EF f/2.8 L USM
Notes: The end of a day-long Landscape Workshop with Fran Halsall on the Essex/Suffolk border at Flatford. After an extremely tasty dinner at a nearby pub, we were about to go home when we noticed the sun was finally coming out from behind some clouds at sunset. So we raced to a good location at Levington Creek just in time to catch a few rays on the mudflats.

Day #2408Title: Lovely Llandudno
Location: Llandudno Pier, Clwyd
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I took a big detour on the way home from Leeds today, visiting the North Wales coast for a couple of days to see some more piers for my project. My first location was the sad sight of the crumbling Colwyn Bay Pier, whose future is about to be decided by a High Court ruling (the council say it’s theirs and want to knock it down, the former bankrupt owner says it’s rightfully his and wants to restore it). The judgement was due this coming Friday (but has been put off yet again), so it was a case of visit quickly in case the decision to pull it down goes ahead! After that, it was a happier location of Llandudno, where the sun came out as you can see here. My final stop for overnight was Bangor where I strolled on the delightful Garth Pier as the sun went down.

Day #2356Title: A Sunny Day On The Beach
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: More pier-spotting today, it was such a lovely sunny day I thought I would make the most of it and take a detour on the way home. It was a major detour! Weymouth Pleasure Pier and Bandstand were the first two, then the recently-reopened Swanage, the penultimate stop at Bournemouth and finally Boscombe. I’ve been to Bournemouth a few times, but it’s never been quite as sunny as it was today. The beach was busy and the pier looked grand.

Day #2351Title: Big Suffolk Sky
Location: Felixstowe, Suffolk
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: There were some spectacularly good clouds to be seen at the coast toady. These were by the pier in Felixstowe. I also visited the charming little Ha’penny Pier at Harwich. These were the first two pier visits for my new photographic project, Piers Of The Realm.

Day #2256Title: Thy Lock Runneth Over
Location: Rickets Lock, Langford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was another beautiful Spring morning, so I went for a walk along part of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation which I haven’t previously explored – the area around Rickets Lock between Ulting and Beeleigh. I was surprised just how flooded the lock gates are, even though we’ve not had any really heavy rain for quite a while now – I’ve never seen it pouring over the downstream walls as well as the lock gates themselves. It makes a perfect shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #3 – Once A Month – March (my series this year is based around each of the locks on the C&BN).

Day #2233Title: Receding Waters
Location: Broomfield Mill
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I didn’t initially intend to go back to Broomfield Mill today but I found a geoache nearby and thought I would nip back to see how the water levels were doing. I was surprised that they have fallen by 3-4 feet in the last couple of days – and although the river is still quite high, it’s largely drained from the saturated fields.
