Day #2532

Day #2532Title: Still At Springfield Lock
Location: Springfield Lock, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: The first of the twelve locks along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin is at Springfield. It’s the last one I’ve photographed for my monthly location shots, looking still and quiet in the late afternoon sunshine. I wonder what it would have looked like in its heyday – way before these modern flats were built alongside. Treasure Hunt Theme #12 – Once A Month – December.

Day #2468Title: High Above Heybridge
Location: Heybridge Basin, Maldon
Camera: GoPro Hero 3+ Black / Pole / GoPro App
Notes: I thought I would visit another lock early in the month this time. Sunshine enticed us to Heybridge Basin for a few shots. The GoPro on a pole provided a different point of view, just for a change. Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #10 – Once A Month – October.

Day #2465Title: The Cuton Lock Pillbox
Location: Cuton Lock, Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was sunny today, so we headed to the canal at Cuton Lock so I could make my monthly shot of the navigation’s twelve locks. Cuton is notable for its bonus WWII Pillbox on the eastern bank. Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #09 – Once A Month – September.

Day #2426Title: Storm Approaching Beeleigh
Location: Beeleigh Lock, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: Time for my monthly visit to the canal, this time to Beeleigh Lock. It was dark and foreboding as a storm approached, so I thought the mono treatment added to the menace of the weather.

Day #2358Title: Bridge At Barnes Mill Lock
Location: Barnes Mill Lock, Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I nipped out to Barnes Mill this afternoon for my monthly shot at one of the Canal locks. Barnes Mill is one of the closest. The weather wasn’t great so I thought a mono treatment would suit the light. Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #06 – Once A Month – June.

Day #2201Title: Overflow At Rushes Lock
Location: Rushes Lock, Ulting
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I found the time to visit another of the 12 locks on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation this afternoon for my Once A Month project. This is Rushes Lock, bewteen Paper Mill lock near Little Baddow and Hoe Mill at Ulting. I decided to take my Big Stopper for a long exposure shot, and was fortunate that the late afternoon sun was playing ball. It’s great for Treasure Hunt Theme #04 – Once A Month – April.

Day #2256Title: Thy Lock Runneth Over
Location: Rickets Lock, Langford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was another beautiful Spring morning, so I went for a walk along part of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation which I haven’t previously explored – the area around Rickets Lock between Ulting and Beeleigh. I was surprised just how flooded the lock gates are, even though we’ve not had any really heavy rain for quite a while now – I’ve never seen it pouring over the downstream walls as well as the lock gates themselves. It makes a perfect shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #3 – Once A Month – March (my series this year is based around each of the locks on the C&BN).
