Day #2817Title: New Patients Not Welcome
Location: Wicklow Street, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix G II ASPH
Notes: I went to London today to meet up with a friend who was speaking at an evening tech event. We had some time to kill beforehand so we went for a wander around. This is the back of one of the Hospitals near King’s Cross – obviously new patients are no longer welcome, since their dedicated entrance has been bricked up!

Day #2813Title: Aisle Decorations
Location: High Beech Church, Epping Forest
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Another very sociable day today – I went to Epping Forest to meet up with friends from Newmarket and London. We enjoyed a lovely picnic (the promised rain held off!) and then had a walk to High Beech Church a short distance away. Andy and Hannah had their 21-month old toddler with them, and Hannah is 7 months pregnant, so we weren’t about to hike very far! During the summer, you can get tea and cake at the church and drink it at tables in the churchyard. It was a very cilivised outing. Inside and out, the church was decorated with flowers – I guess there must have been a wedding there yesterday as they were all very fresh. I thought the aisle looked rather splendid.

Day #2787Title: Copt Hall
Location: Stock, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX7 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: The village of Stock, just south of Chelmsford, has many fine old buildings. I have passed through the High Street several times over the last couple of weeks and the owners of this property have had the decorators in repainting the front windows. It looks like the job is now finished, and the place looks rather spick and span. It is Copt Hall, a Grade II listed building, built in the 18th Century.

Day #2726Title: Film’s Not Dead
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Strobist: 1x Yongnuo YN560 from behind, @ 1/32 though white translucent perspex
Notes:  As part of my Retro 365 film project, I want to adapt one of my Yashica 44’s to take some sprocket hole shots. This will enable me to use the 4x4cm medium format camera to expose 35mm film. It doesn’t look that difficult (and is reversible, so I won’t wreck the camera). The trickiest part is usually getting the film scanned after processing to show the sprocket holes, since asking a lab to scan 35mm only gets you the usual content of each frame, not the sprocket holes too. But it set me thinking – so the subject of today’s image is an experiment. It’s a slide film frame (good old Agfa CT Precisa 200), taken during December 1999 in Berlin, of the Infobox. [The building was dismantled in 2001]. This frame is not scanned – but photographed with my DSLR and macro lens, lit from underneath with a diffuse burst of flash, flat on a piece of translucent perspex. There was a piece of  glass over the top to keep the slide from curling. The camera was mounted on my copystand, looking directly down at the slide. As you can see, I have got the whole of the film in quite easily, including the sprocket holes! Now I just have to expose some new 35mm film for more sprockety goodness. It also provides a suitable image for Treasure Hunt Theme #16 – Breaking The Rules.

Location: Writtle
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 24mm EF-S f/2.8 STM
Notes:  After a long drive home, I stopped off in Writtle for a quick walk. This house is now displaying the wisteria in full bloom.

Day #2658Title: Colour With A Gull
Location: Burgess Hill, Sussex
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-135mm EF-S f3.5-5.6 IS STM
Notes: Today I had the pleasure of judging the Sussex Photographic Federation’s 2015 Print Championships, along with Marie-Ange Bouchard ARPS and Chris Palmer FRPS. It was hard work but very rewarding. As I spent most of the day indoors, I didn’t have many opportunities for pictures, but this was made afterwards a few hundred yards from the venue in Burgess Hill.

Day #2608Title: The Core
Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 24mm EF-S f/2.8 STM
Notes: I went to an event in The Core today, a new building at Newcastle University which wasn’t quite officially opened yet. It was pretty shiny inside and out.
