Day #3969Title: It’s Raining, It’s Pouring
Location: Ingatestone, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: The heavens opened as I got in the car to drive to the station for a trip to London today. It was still pelting down as I waited for the train, but luckily Ingatestone has a warm waiting room and a canopy over the platform.

Day #3932Title: Drive The Train
Location: Newcastle Metro, Approaching Chillingham Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I had a very enjoyable day displaying my LEGO models at Discovery Brick Show today. After the show closed I met up with Alistair (who had been busy elsewhere during the day) and we enjoyed a lovely social with the other folks – first bowling and then dinner. So it was quite late by the time we made our way back home on the Metro. But one advantage is nobody was sitting in the front seats next to the driver’s cab, so we got a good view – and it always makes me feel like I’m driving the train! Anyway, makes a perfect shot for 52 Weeks 2018 – Topic 10, Long Exposure.

Day #3908Title: Bye Bye For Today
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: I took a brief walk around the estate towards sunset this evening. The orb had already sunk below the rooftops but I liked how the last glow in the sky was catching the curved rooves of the cars parked on the street, just adding enough interest in the foreground.

Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: My good friend and photographer Ken Scott (Touchingthelight) – who has been at this photo a day game for as long as me – says, on days of desperation, “there’s always a lamp”. Very true. In this case, the tail lamps from a neighbour’s car!

Day #3890Title: Steaming At Orchard Junction
Location: London Colney, Hertfordshire
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Geeks + Miniature Steam Trains + BBQ = Geek Steam BBQ. We’ve been having fun driving tiny trains for 9 years now, every August Bank Holiday Saturday, and this was one of the lovely little engines which was visiting this year. It is simmering in the sidings at Orchard Junction waiting for the next passengers to embark. And yes, I know it’s just letting off steam at the moment, but it does involve a bit of smoke when chuffing around, so I’m going to say it counts for Treasure Hunt Theme #63 – Smokey.

Day #3885Title: When The Boat Goes Out
Location: South Shields, Tyne & Wear
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: Spending another day in the Newcastle area to break up my journey home, Alistair and I went for a walk around the harbour in South Shields this afternoon. It was a bit of a grim day but the Herd Groyne Lighthouse provided a splash of colour as this huge DFDS ship chugged past, taking holidaymakers to Amsterdam and beyond. So an image which connects well for 52 Weeks 2018 – Topic 13, Holiday.

Day #3876Title: The Cracked Porthole
Location: Maldon, Essex
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario Power OIS
Notes: Today I met a friend for tea and cake along with a catch up. We also visited Maldon for a walk long the prom and an ice cream. I spotted this cracked porthole on the cabin of the Steam Tug Brent, which is moored at Maldon and is in the process of being renovated back to full steam service.

Day #3878Title: 101 Blue
Location: Nene Valley Railway, Wansford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: It was time to drive south again today. As it turned into rather a long journey due to an accident on the M11, I was glad I chose to stop off for a sandwich and stretch my legs for a late lunch at the Nene Valley Railway at Wansford. I also had a quick wander around the yard, spotting this rather fine Swedish Railways Class B 4-6-0 Express locomotive, No. 101. It was built by Nyquist and Holm in 1944, and saw service until 1958, after which it was mothballed for military reserve until it was finally scrapped in 1979. The NVR bought it and restored it, and it is apparently a favourite of film makers – did you know that it was this loco, disguised as an East German engine, which demolished a Mercedes in the James Bond film Octopussy? Nope, neither did I until I read the info board next to it! Anyway, this is a great shot for 52 Weeks 2018 – Topic 17, Blue.

Day #3857Title: Sokol
Location: Hancock Museum, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 Lumix G X Vario ASPH Power OIS
Notes: This morning Alistair and I went to the Hancock Museum to have a look at the Sokol spacesuit worn by Britain’s first astronaut, Helen Sharman. It’s a great piece of space memorabilia which is on display in Newcastle as part of the Great Exhibition Of The North, which celebrates artistic and technological creations and people from the North of England. Helen was born in Sheffield and did her undergraduate degree there. It’s great to have such a pioneer who studied at my alma mater!

Day #3844Title: Rooftop Flypast
Location: At home
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GX8 / Panasonic 100-300mm f4.0-5.6 Lumix G Vario Power OIS
Notes: My Mum rang me today to let me know that the RAF100 flypast parade of aircraft were likely to be flying over Chelmsford on their way to the Mall and Buckingham Palace any minute. So I grabbed my camera and longest lens, and poked my head out of the back door to see what I could see. A short time later, various planes came streaking across the sky. Unfortunately, they were more over the centre of town than where I live, and quite close to the ground, so they just appeared to be skimming the rooftops. The heat haze also made the pictures a bit blurry, but it’s not every day the RAF buzzes your back door, so this was my shot for today. I also spotted the Red Arrows but they were just in the wrong place for me to get a picture.
