Day #339

Day #339Title: Winter Branches
Location: Hylands Park, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-135mm EF-S f3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Self-Timer
Notes: I took a break from decorating this afternoon to take some books I had sorted out to the Second Hand Bookshop at Hylands Park. I also caught a lovely sunset and had time for a cup of tea a slice of delicious apple cake. The current 52 Weeks theme is Trees With No Leaves – so I also found a suitable spot for that one too.

Day #316

Day #316Title: Birthplace Of Radio
Location: Galleywood Road, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-135mm EF-S f3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Self-Timer
Notes: Chelmsford has a long association with technological developments. It is known as the Birthplace of Radio because Guglielmo Marconi developed much of his equipment in the town. The UK’s first entertainment radio broadcast was from Marconi’s New Street works in 1920. By the late 1940’s, part of the Marconi company became the English Electric Valve Company Ltd (now known as e2v). After a 10-year mission, today the ESA landed the Philae probe on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. If that wasn’t exciting enough, I also learned that part of the imaging system (the sensors) were actually made by e2v (they also made sensors for the upgrade to the Hubble Space Telescope). It’s not every day you can say that something which was made a mile down the road has travelled a total of 4,070,263,059 miles to land on something which is now 31,6621,525 miles from the Earth! Makes me proud to be a Chelmsford resident!

Day #182Title: I Found Thomas
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Gorillapod / Wireless Remote
Notes: I’ve had my eye on a couple of puzzle geocaches near home for a while now. Having solved the puzzles a few weeks ago, I needed the time to go out and find them. Today was the day. Sure enough, I was rewarded at the first by this excellent cache, hidden inside Thomas The Tank Engine!

Day #120

Day #120Title: Thirsty Evening
Location: The Woolpack, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Mini Tripod / Wireless Remote
Notes:  I enjoyed an evening at a local geocachers’ meeting. This is what I would look like if I had actually sampled all of these beers at The Woolpack… As it was, I just had a couple of no-alcohol brews as I was driving.

Day #94

Day #94Title: Faceless Uniformity
Location: Chelmsford High Street
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Mini Tripod / Wireless Remote
Notes: I popped into town this morning to run a couple of errands. I was looking forward to having lunch at my favourite independent café, Cherry On Top (renowned for its amazing cakes). To my horror, I got there only to find it has turned into a Dunkin’ Donuts while I have been away! This made me very sad. I wandered around the town in a bad mood, but had a look in The Works stationery outlet where I found a papier-mâché mask, which gave me an idea for this image. I hate that such places with character are slowly turning into chains of faceless uniformity.

Day #76

Day #76Title: You Spin Me Right Round
Location: John Shennan Playing Field, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Mini tripod / Wireless Remote
Notes: Alistair was heading home to Newcastle this afternoon, but we managed a quick walk to John Shennan Playing Field before his long drive. We spotted the playground equipment and I had an idea for the current 52 Weeks theme – Long Exposure. Alistair spun the roundabout while I sat on it getting dizzy!
