Day #338

Day #338Title: Transformation Complete
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Extras: Tripod / Wireless Remote
Notes: The redecorating job is done in the dining room end. That was the easy bit. I now have lots of full bookcases to move if I want to complete the orange eradication in the other end of the room. Maybe tomorrow. For the moment, I’ll just sit and have a rest!

Day #259

Day #259Title: The View From My Office
Location: BBC Scotland, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
Camera: GoPro Hero 3+ Black
Extras: GoPro Pole / Wireless Remote
Notes: Having spent the last fortnight rigging up loads of temporary facilities for the Scotland Decides coverage, this week we are well into rehearsals. If I’ve done my job properly, I shouldn’t have much to do for the next few days – just be on hand to fix anything if it goes wrong. This is the view from my perch in the 4th floor results processing area.

Day #243

Day #243Title: Make Yourselves At Home
Location: High Gavinburn, Old Kilpatrick
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Extras: Tripod / CamRanger
Notes: Today was day 2 of the drive up to our cottage accommodation just outside Glasgow, which myself and four colleagues will call home from home for the next month while we are working on the Scottish Referendum programme. I was the first to arrive, so decided to make myselves at home. The clones loved it! Perfect for Treasure Hunt #64 – Homely.

Day #58

Day #58Title: Ghost In The Machine
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Extras: Tripod / CamRanger
Notes: My mum says I live on my computer. What she doesn’t realise is that sometimes I feel like I’m actually trapped in my computer! This is an image conceived as part of my Creative Photography course homework. Having drawn a mind map about me, one of the key facts which emerged (which was no surprise) is that I’m a computer geek. Once the germ of the idea was born, we were then asked to sketch out the main aspects of the image we wanted to produce. It was actually quite difficult to execute the initial shot – me with my nose pressed against some glass. I used a cupboard door in my study but that meant having my back to the window and all I got was a bad silhouette. So I also used a couple of flashes placed each side, bounced off the ceiling to balance the exposure on me, with the blown-out curtains behind. Once that was done I set the image as the desktop background for my laptop and re-photographed it in the studio (using natural light from a window). I think I got pretty close to my initial vision, so I’m quite pleased with the final result. It also fits the current 52 Weeks theme – Windows, albeit in a slightly left-field way!

Day #27

Day #27Title: Keep Calm And Carry On
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 8-15mm Fisheye EF f/4 L USM
Extras: Gorillapod / CamRanger
Notes: HMRC’s Self Assessment tax return deadline is at the end of this month. Despite resolving every year to get it sorted well beforehand, I always seem to leave it until the last minute. Keep Calm. Breathe. Have that KitKat… Perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #69 – Obstacles (of the metaphorical variety, at least!)

Location: GNPC, Witham
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 18-55mm EF f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Extras: Gorillapod / CamRanger
Notes: I spent today at an excellent workshop on advanced Photoshop techniques, hosted by GNPC and lead by digital artist, author and PS expert Steve Caplin. I’m making sure my laptop is ready to go before the workshop begins.
