November ’13 – Review

Posted by Caz on Sunday, 1st December 2013

November has been an incredibly busy month for pictures and trips. The first photographic outing of the month was to see Fantastic Fireworks at Billericay. We got a great spot across the water so the reflections were even more spectacular than usual. I think I did a better job than last time, in 2011.

A few days later it was out to Sunny Southend for a photowalk with friends. It was very cold but the light was great.

The next week, I went on a Nature Study Day at Copped Hall run by Peter Warne. It was very enjoyable but the weather was less than kind – the drizzle was pretty awful by the end of the day! Waterproof trousers were a must, and I still got some decent shots.

I chose another drizzly day for a Wivenhoe Wander but the boats provided a splash of colour in an otherwise grey outing.

The next day however, there was some fab autumn light during my Mersea Meander. It was bitterly cold and my fingers barely survived, but the sunshine was most welcome.

Alistair came to stay for a while mid-month, and we took an evening walk along the Thames on our way to meet friends for a birthday dinner. The bridges at night looked spectacular.

We had a few dull days, but eventually we made the most of the sunshine by taking a trip to Epping Forest for some Autumn colour. Alistair also helped me out with my lastest Face Down Tuesday – Autumn Colour Edition.

Another day we went for a walk into Chelmsford and passed the Graffiti wall again. It’s always good to take a look to see what’s changed since last time:

As well as the wall, I also spotted this lovely leaf which was a near miss for Day #2152:

I enjoyed another weekend away this month with Alistair, this time exploring Bath and Lacock, looking around the picturesque Abbey:

The last photography outing of the month was back to my Monthly location of Sandford Mill Footbridge, this time with some lightpainting tools to have a play. I got a few good shots before the cold got the better of me! I’ll have to revisit again soon with thicker gloves, perhaps.

I have managed several more 50@50 images this month too: #44 at Hylands Park, #45 at Southend-on-Sea, #46 in West Mersea, #47 in Bath. And of course I decided to participate in MoNovember  again this year, having done it first in 2011 and then 2012. I was pretty pleased with the results over the month.

February ’11 Review

Watery on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation

Watery on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation

It’s been pretty murky for most of February. Much like the same month last year, the rain seemed never-ending. In fact, 8th Feb was the only day I can remember where we had any length of sunshine. I made the most of it by heading out for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and was rewarded with some great light. “Watery” [right] was taken near Little Baddow Lock on the Chelmer & Blackwater Canal, and nearly made it for the Day #1135 shot.

Not a lot else happened during the month until I took a trip to Newcastle for a few days. Again, the weather was rather grey but going for a few dusk shots brightens things up a little.

I’m fascinated by The Slug (Sage Centre in Gateshead), and usually take several pictures from different views each time I visit. This time around, it was dusk on the Quayside which made the building look like three ships sailing away into the night:

That nearly made it for my Day #1146 shot, but instead I went for the iconic Blinking Bridge lit up. The No Climbing shot was a close second on Day #1147, taken during a grey trip out with friends from the Newcastle Photowalk Flickr group.

The last weekend in the month saw me travel south to Bournemouth for BarCamp Bournemouth3. I had high hopes for some shots along the seafront on the Friday evening, but arrived to find that my EOS 7D was playing up (showing Error 30 – shutter problems) and not taking any pictures apart from black frames! So I had to abandon that.

I did manage some other images, having taken along my Lumix GF1 (I always have it as a backup). But the picture-making options are a bit more limited with that as I only have the 2omm pancake lens for it. The shadows in the lobby of the University made for an interesting subject when the sun shone – and this was very nearly my shot of the day for Day #1153.

I’ve now taken the sick camera to be mended, thankfully it’s still in warranty so hopefully I won’t get stung for a huge repair bill.

Chelmsford Photowalk #20

Posted by Caz on Monday, 27th September 2010

I do love the English weather. Most of the time!

Today was our Chelmsford Photo Walk visit to Maldon. Four of us trudged around in the rain and eventually gave up and went to the pub while it eased off a bit. It was supposed to be nice so I could celebrate the milestone of reaching Day #1000! Something I never intended to aim for, but somehow it just happened…

Here are today’s soggy images:
