October ’13 – Review

Posted by Caz on Friday, 1st November 2013

I haven’t been on many dedicated photo outings this month, but have managed to keep up with various projects including another three Face Down Tuesday shots – Down With The Ducks EditionStalking The Wildlife Edition and Falling Off A Log Edition.

This time of year is always great for Finding Fungi and I’ve had several very successful forays to local woods in search of various specimens. This little group caught my eye in Swan Wood on 19th and nearly made it for Day #2119.

I’ve also made several new 50@50 images while out on my travels, #38 at Sandford Mill, #39 one evening in London, #40 and #43 on Galleywood Common, #41 on my way to work and #42 on an evening walk in Hoxton.

I’m always a sucker for some Glorious Graffiti with another visit to the Chelmsford Wall as well as finding some great pieces in Shoreditch on my way to work.

I was attracted by The Bright Lights Of London Town too – now it’s getting darker just as I leave work, it gave me the opportunity to make some attractive dusk shots during the Blue Hour.

I also went on another evening street photography walk in Hoxton with my nocturnal friend from GNPC. It’s always good to see a bit of night life!

Finally, this month saw the RPS adjudicate on my Fellowship application. Sadly it was a no, but it has given me the opportunity to prepare my 2000 Days of the Seeing Eye project, which I hope to have an exhibition with in the future. Watch this space!

Window Gazing
Title: Window Gazing
Location: London Wall
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: There was some great evening light as I walked back from work today. I decided to take the long route via London Wall for a change, and enjoyed gazing at all the reflections in this huge window spanning the road by the Museum of London.

April ’13 – Review

Posted by Caz on Thursday, 2nd May 2013

Wow, I hadn’t realised just how busy the month was for photography until I looked back over the blog posts! For starters, I found four more  50@50 images – #14, #15, #16 and #17 this month, plus three Face Down TuesdaysPolitical FatigueMoving Out and Lost Its Sparkle editions. On 30th April I also made another dozen or so FDT’s around TVC but they will be published sequentially over the next few weeks – watch this space!

The beginning of the month saw me reviewing a Cactus LV5 Laser Trigger for use with high speed photography. But I’ve also been on several group and individual photoshoots. The first was a bit of light painting and fire spinning with The Essex Massive in Colchester. Here’s another one from the session:

Next up was an evening walk around Westminster with a friend; we met up after I’d finished work for the evening at Millbank. There was plenty to photograph and the bright lights of London Town didn’t disappoint:

I paid another visit to the Graffiti Wall in Wharf Road this month too. It’s changed yet again. Here was a tiny section of one of the tags:

I went to Southend for a street shoot with some friends from the GNPC one Sunday. It was cold but fabulously sunny, so there were plenty of characters to see along the seafront (one of the dodgiest was one who we brought with us!)

The final Sunday saw me out and about again, this time on Chelmsford Photowalk #46 to Coalhouse Fort. As well as the usual static exhibits, there was also a special display of Military History and re-enactors around the place. Some of them posed for a picture for me:

I treated myself to a new lens a few days ago too – the lovely Canon 8-15mm f/4 L USM Fisheye. I have been testing it out as much as possible, and I’ll write a proper review in due course, but in a nutshell, it’s fab! Here is one of the first pictures I made with it in Chelmsford Cathedral:

I’ve been working in Television Centre again for the last couple of weeks of April, and exploring various eerie corridors and locations during my lunch breaks. Almost everyone has already moved out, so the place is semi-deserted, it’s very strange. But I now have a huge backlog of urbex stuff which I hope to sort and post during early May (again, watch this space). Here’s a quick taster for you:

As you can see, the fisheye has been earning its keep again!

Finally, as this year’s Mono MayHem approaches, I’ve been doing a little practice with a few mono images over the last month.

So there you have it – all quite busy. I wonder if May will turn out to be as manic?
